PARKERSBURG — WVU Parkersburg has announced its spring 2024 clinical students.
“The residency model has been a great addition to our teacher preparation program. Residents are given the opportunity to work with the same cooperating teacher and the same K-6 students for an entire year.” said Bobby Marshall, dean of the College of Professional Studies. “By being able to participate in the same class throughout the school year, teacher candidates have the opportunity to participate not only at the beginning of the school year, but also at the end of the school year. The one year experience allows teacher candidates to participate in their own classrooms after graduation. You’ll gain the skills you need to step into your shoes successfully.”
The Elementary Education program provides classroom field experience as early as the first grade. In the traditional student teaching model, a teacher candidate spends her first semester in two classrooms and immediately assumes teaching responsibilities under the guidance of an experienced teacher until she is ready to teach full-time. . In the new training model, a teacher candidate is placed in one classroom throughout her senior year and gradually assumes responsibility.
