SCRANTON – The Wright Graduate Medical Education Center welcomed 51 new residents to its regional training program after achieving 100 percent matching on National Match Day for physician candidates.
Match Day for the National Resident Matching Program is held on the third Friday of March each year. Medical students across the country and around the world are simultaneously learning which U.S. residency programs they will be training in for the next three to seven years. This is one of the most important and competitive processes of your medical school experience.
The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education holds an annual Match Day to learn which medical graduates will continue their training in our Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited, comprehensive, community-based training programs located in Northeastern Pennsylvania. looking forward to it. The Wright Center is one of the nation's largest teaching health center graduate medical education consortiums funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), training more than 245 physicians.
The Wright Center matched residents in regional programs for family medicine training (13 people), internal medicine training (33 people), and physical therapy and rehabilitation training (5 people). The resident will begin her first year of training in Scranton on July 1st.
First-year students come from 13 countries: Bahrain (1), Canada (6), China (1), India (9), Nepal (3), Pakistan (12), and the Philippines (2). ), Saint Lucia (1 person), Saudi Arabia (1), Serbia (1), Uganda (1), UK (1), and USA (12).
We received 5,072 applications for the residency program and interviewed 516 candidates, representing approximately 10.17% of applicants. The National Residency Matching Program uses mathematical algorithms to match residency and match graduating medical students with open residency positions at educational health centers, educational consortia, hospitals, and other institutions across the United States. This model considers top choices for both student and resident programs.
