SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry twisted his ankle late in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's 125-122 loss to the Chicago Bulls and left the game. he didn't come back.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after the contest that he did not have an update on Curry's injury and needed to speak with team trainers. He said Curry was putting his right foot in an ice bath when he saw him in the locker room.
Curry's teammates were prepared for him to miss some games.
“If he needs time off, we're going to miss him,” Klay Thompson said. “We've been in this position before where he was on leave, but we had to pull ourselves together and do it. I knew it would be ready whenever he came back.” We just wish him a speedy recovery.'' “
Curry, who was not in the Warriors' locker room when reporters were allowed in, has missed three games this season, two with a sore right knee and one due to rest.
Draymond Green said Curry was in high spirits after Thursday's contest.
Curry twisted his ankle on a drive to the hoop with 3:51 left in the fourth quarter. Flanked by Chicago's Alex Caruso and Derrick White, Curry stepped in with his right foot and rolled.
He tried to avoid it, but Kerr subbed him out. Curry immediately headed to the locker room with Rick Celebrini, director of player health and performance.
The injury occurred just two games after the Warriors brought back Andrew Wiggins and had a full roster for the first time since November.
“It's unfortunate, but everyone deals with injuries,” Green said. “We have to do our best to deal with it.”
Curry scored 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter.
If Curry misses time, Chris Paul will likely replace him in the starting lineup. Paul started 11 games in his first season with the Warriors, but hasn't started since early January.
“We know he's more than capable. He's Chris Paul,” Green said. “It's unbelievable to have C here, but then Steph goes down — there's no one like Stephen Curry in the NBA, but you get to play with a guy who can win game after game. It's definitely a good feeling to go into the game.'' I can go into the game with confidence that I am more than capable of winning the game. ”
