Running back Dylan Edwards was a breakout freshman on the University of Colorado's football roster. Now he's taking that talent to the track.
CBS Colorado Sports' Richie Cozzolino took a lap with Edwards at CU's indoor practice facility and got to know the new two-sport athlete.
“Coming to college, I saw how track could take your game to another level,” Edwards said. “The running track here at CU will definitely get me better for the fall season.”
In his first career track meet, Edwards competed in the 60-yard dash and advanced to the finals, posting a final time of 6.92.
Back in the fall, Edwards turned heads in his first game at Colorado. He totaled four touchdowns and gained 159 all-purpose yards in the Buffaloes' 45-42 victory over Texas Christian University. Edwards struggled in the second half of the season, reaching the end zone only once all year.
“I’m really happy to be there to do my job,” Edwards said. “After the first game where we scored this many touchdowns, I knew adversity was coming. All I can do is put my head down and play the game I love.”
How is your second year at Folsom Field? Expectations are rising again.
“The ceiling is nothing short of a championship,” Edwards said. “(The hope is) to get to a bowl game and win at least eight games. I feel like with the team we've built and the team we've put together right now, we can win every game this year. It all just starts in the locker room.'' And what we do here on the (practice) field. ”
