Two police officers were injured in a shooting at a home in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, a law enforcement official in the county told CNN.
Officers were responding to a call Wednesday. Officials say someone barricaded themselves inside the home and fired shots outside.
Another person briefed on the situation told CNN that the incident began when a person claiming to be a child called police and said he had been shot, but it remains unclear whether the child was actually shot. said it was unclear.
When officers arrived, they say someone fired shots from inside the home.
Both officers are in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer told CNN affiliates that WPVI officers responded to a 911 call about an 11-year-old boy possibly shot on the property.
“They responded and immediately received gunfire from the house and someone fired at them,” Stollsteimer said. The person inside set the house on fire, the police prosecutor added.
“They're getting the fire under control and then they're going to find out if the shooter is still alive inside the house. So this is still a crime scene,” Stollsteimer said Wednesday night. Ta.
Authorities said they are not yet sure if children were involved.
“We don't have independent information about whether there was an 11-year-old child, whether there was an 11-year-old shooter, who was in the house. That's all we'll find out.” said.
Police said the gunshots stopped and the fire destroyed nearly the entire house. The fire appeared to be under control as of Wednesday evening.
However, earlier WPVI footage showed a chaotic scene around the house.
The house was seen burning, and within an hour the ferocious flames had engulfed much of it, leaving behind only a charred shell and a huge plume of black smoke spreading through the neighborhood.
It is unclear when and how the fire broke out.
During the initial response, a group of firefighters were seen near the scene waiting to respond to the blaze as nearby residents gathered in the street to watch.
At one point, and with the fire still raging, WPVI footage showed an armored vehicle plowing into the home.
“As I came out of the store, I heard a lot of gunshots…and I saw police coming from everywhere,” one neighbor told police, adding that authorities were yelling about a “gunman.” He added that he heard.
