Afton, Minn. — Two people were killed when a small plane crashed east of the Twin Cities on Saturday morning.
The accident happened just before 9:45 a.m. near the 15000 block of Afton Hills Boulevard South, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Officials said there were several calls from nearby residents reporting what sounded like “small explosions.”
When first responders arrived, they found a small plane that had crashed in the yard of a home near an attached garage. Officials said the plane was completely engulfed in flames.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, they discovered the bodies of an 85-year-old man from White Bear Lake and a 68-year-old man from Baytown Township. Their families have been notified.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the aircraft type is Global GC1.
The US Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB are investigating the crash.
