After three years at Nebraska, Trev Alberts will replace Ross Bjork as Texas A&M's new athletic director.
Bjork left College Station in January after five years to become Ohio State's athletic director. Coincidentally, Bjork was hired for the Buckeye Athletic Director position by former Nebraska State President Ted Carter.

Alberts played at the University of Nebraska from 1990 to 1993, where he was an All-American and had his number 34 retired at Memorial Stadium. After a highly regarded career in college football, Alberts returned to his alma mater and took over as athletic director in 2021.
Shortly after the start of his tenure, he was offered a significant contract extension that doubled his salary from $853,882 to $1.7 million. His salary was scheduled to increase to $2.1 million in 2026. His contract extension runs through 2031, and many are wondering what happened during the three years he was here.
Since he joined Lincoln, the university has undergone several administrative changes. Carter served as president of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for four years before taking over as president of Ohio State University while Alberts served as athletic director. Since Carter's departure, Chris Kabrec has served as president of the University of Nebraska.
Mr. Alberts also witnessed the change of chancellor at UNL. Ronnie Green served as UNL's president for seven years starting in 2016, retiring at the end of the spring 2023 semester. In the summer of 2023, Rodney Bennett became president of the university.
Mr. Alberts has done some great things for Nebraska's athletic programs. First, the hiring of Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule had a lot to do with Alberts. The rules were carefully selected by Alberts. That was a big reason the former Carolina Panthers head coach moved to Lincoln.
Alberts also played a large role in implementing Volleyball Day in Nebraska. The volleyball team played at Lincoln's Memorial Stadium, which held 92,003 people, breaking the world record for the largest attendance for a women's sporting event.

Alberts showed continued support for Hoiberg, even though he won only 24 games in Hoiberg's first three seasons as head coach. In a more recent story, lawsuit Alberts and the NU Board of Trustees have been in trouble at the hands of the University of Nebraska administration for current women's basketball head coach Amy Williams and former assistant coach Chuck Love. Neither NU nor Texas A&M have made further comment since former basketball player Ashley Scoggin filed the lawsuit last month. This is not a clear indication as to why Alberts is leaving the club midway through his newly renewed contract, but legal work and major troubles could be the reason for his early departure.
