Black Maternal and Child Health Week is April 11-17, 2024. Dr. Alice Tong and Dr. Victoria Wheeler, obstetricians and gynecologists from Renaissance Women's Group, stopped by Studio 512 to discuss the importance of medical education and awareness this week.
“Black Maternal Health Week was started by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance. BMHW is a week of awareness, activism, and community building to amplify the voices, perspectives, and lived experiences of Black moms and birthing people. The week is intentionally coinciding with National Minority Health Month, which begins each year on April 11 and is recognized by dozens of global organizations as the International Day of Maternal and Child Health and Rights. This is an opportunity to advocate for the abolition of maternal mortality worldwide. Activities and conversations held throughout the week intentionally center the values and traditions of the reproductive and birth justice movements.
“At Renaissance Women's Group, our team of obstetricians, gynecologists, and physician assistants work together to provide our patients with the best care possible. We treat women at all stages of life, including women seeking help, patients seeking help with pregnancy, and women experiencing menopause.”
