Tiger Woods withdrew from the Genesis Invitational, the second round of his return to the PGA Tour, due to illness.
Woods, 48, who hosts the tournament at Riviera Country Club, ran off the course in a cart shortly after teeing off on the seventh hole.
The 15-time major champion hasn't played on the PGA Tour since missing the Masters last April with an injury in the third round.
Woods withdrew this week in California at 2 over par.
The American, who remains golf's biggest attraction, had an eventful opening round on Thursday with a 1-over-par 72, five birdies and six bogeys.
He paid homage to his past Friday by wearing a red, navy and white striped polo shirt similar to the shirt he wore when he made his PGA Tour debut at the venue in 1992 at the age of 16. The match started.
But after starting the second round with a birdie on the par-5 first hole, he dropped shots on the fourth and fifth and probably would have been in contention for a spot had he been able to continue playing.
Woods suffered serious injuries in a car accident in Los Angeles in February 2021, and was worried his leg would have to be amputated, but he is still undergoing ankle fusion surgery.
He underwent treatment for it last April after withdrawing from Augusta National.
He told reporters Thursday that he was suffering from back spasms along with pain in his surgically repaired leg after making a rare and cautious approach on Wednesday.
Rules official Mark Dusbabek told Golf Channel that Woods' absence is unrelated to these long-standing issues.
Woods has only appeared in nine official games over the past four seasons. He missed the cut twice and withdrew three times.
