Tiger Woods will continue to play golf in his trademark red polo shirt, even if it's made by a different company.
Woods parted ways with Nike last month after 27 years, but on Monday announced a new partnership with TaylorMade Golf.
Woods has been a longtime fan of TaylorMade clubs. The company also recently filed a trademark application for Woods' Sunday Red brand. In honor of the red he wears every Sunday while playing golf, his mother said it was his “power color,” according to the Associated Press.
He debuted his new look on Monday at the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera in Los Angeles, wearing an off-white hoodie from the line. The brand will officially launch in May.
The announcement came as a surprise to some golf insiders who had expected a collaboration with Greyson Clothiers. There were clues that Mr. Woods was looking to the company as his next partner. According to Sports Illustrated, Woods' 14-year-old son Charlie was spotted wearing Grayson's clothes over the weekend.
On Saturday, Woods posted a photo on Instagram teasing his announcement.Fans quickly noticed his new Sunday Red I could see the logo on his gloves.
Woods played in all four rounds of the unofficial Hero World Challenge in December, his first tournament in about eight months while recovering from ankle surgery after the Masters. He is the tournament host for this year's PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational.
Woods' illustrious golf career after winning the 1997 Masters was only culminated in his ability to garner multi-million dollar endorsements. At his peak in the late 2000s, Woods was earning $100 million a year off the course, Forbes reported.
Sponsorship income continued to benefit Woods amid injuries and scandals. In 2009, he crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant near his Florida home after reports surfaced that he had been cheating on him with his then-wife Elin Nordegren. He soon came clean about multiple extramarital affairs.
