san antonio – Parents looking for child care on San Antonio’s southeast side have another option.
“We're opening an early childhood classroom unlike anything we've ever had before,” said Pre-K 4 SA CEO Sarah Barai.
A new Pre-K 4 SA South Education Center is under construction at East Southcross and South WW White Road.
“We were fortunate enough to partner with Peter Holt and he generously donated the land on this site, so that was a really important part of that, but this is a child care facility. “It was in an area where we were considering building a site because we know there's one thing: the desert,” Barai said.
Pre-K 4 SA has another South Education Center near Southeast Military Drive and South New Braunfels Avenue, but this new facility will replace it.
“At Pre-K 4 SA, while we have four schools of our own and also operate the Gardendale Early Learning Program in the Edgewood School District, we partner with over 100 different providers across the city. We help provide high-quality early learning in a variety of areas, with a variety of settings,” Barai said.
Barai said the data collected at Pre-K 4 SA shows that their program is impacting the lives of not only San Antonio children, but also their families.
“One study found that families participating in SA's K-12 extended day program, which is aimed at families who work full time or attend school, save about $15,000 per year just to have access to the program. We now know that we're earning more than $1,000. So we're having a huge impact not just on our current workforce, but on our future workforce as well,” Barai said.
The center is expected to open in the 2025-2026 school year.
