Teacher of the Year: Glenpool Public Schools announced April 11 that Michelle Smith has been named the 2024 Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Smith teaches kindergarten at Glenpool Lower Elementary School.
On Thursday, Sapulpa Public Schools announced Alex West as Teacher of the Year. Mr. West, who has 8 years of teaching experience, teaches 6th grade English at Sapulpa Middle School.
Support Employee of the Year: Sapulpa Public Schools announced Thursday that Ron Wood has been named Support Employee of the Year. Wood, who has been with the district for seven years, is a warehouse supervisor and delivery driver for the district.
Another state title: Union Public Schools, which has 175 eligible seniors from the class of 2023, announced Wednesday that the school has been named the Class 6A Oklahoma Promise State Champion for the 12th consecutive year.

Oklahoma's Promise State Champions, named by the Oklahoma State Board of Higher Education, are the highest-ranking OSSAA recipients of the Oklahoma's Promise Scholarship, which covers tuition at up to five Oklahoma public colleges or universities. With 162 students graduating in 2023, Broken Arrow was named the Class 6A runner-up. Rogers Collegiate High School was the Class 5A runner-up with 60 Oklahoma's Promise graduates. Gore High School in western Sequoia County had 16 of her graduates and was the Class A champion.
New head husky: At Monday's meeting, the TPS Board of Education approved the appointment of Kari Tapley as acting principal at Hoover Elementary School. A TPS spokesperson confirmed after the meeting that her predecessor, Brooke Rowland, had resigned to take a position outside the district.
Monday's vote made Hoover the ninth TPS facility to change principals since the start of the second semester. Other schools that have seen leadership changes include Council Oak Elementary School, Carr Elementary School and McClure Elementary School. East Central Middle School and Hale Middle School. Memorial High School and two alternative schools: North Star Academy and TRAICE Academy.
To easily earn 10 points…: The academic teams of Morris, Preston and Vinita will compete in the traditional public school division of the Small School National Championships in Chicago from Friday through Sunday.
Other Oklahoma schools eligible to participate in the event include Coalgate and Dixon in the traditional public school division and Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics in the open division.
The traditional small school category is limited to schools with fewer than 500 students in the top three grades and is open to all students living within the school district. The open category is open to any school with limited enrollment, with fewer than 350 students in the top three grades.
Looking for accessories: Pre-Kindergarten registration is open until May 24th for students who live in the Allenboden attendance area in northern Creek County and will be 4 years old by September 1st. Documents required for registration include the child's original birth certificate and the child's immunization records. and proof of residence.

Stay home day: Monday is Liberty's distance learning day.
Friday is a remote learning day for Collinsville students in grades 6-12.
There will be no classes Friday at Berry Hill, Coweta, Keefer, Mounds, Pretty Water, Sperry, Tulsa, Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences and Verdigris.
Board of Education calendar: The Owasso and Tulsa Tech school boards are scheduled to meet Monday.
The boards of College Bound Academy, Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences and Tulsa Classical Academy are scheduled to meet Tuesday.
