San Diego residents are invited to walk with us for mental health at the annual San Diego NAMI Walks and Mental Wellness Expo this Saturday, April 27, 2024. This year's theme is “I am NAMIwalks.”
The free event, hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness in partnership with the county Department of Health and Human Services, kicks off Mental Health Awareness Month, which is celebrated each May.
Community members are encouraged to join local organizations to raise awareness about mental health, address the stigma surrounding the topic of mental health, and come together to let others know they are not alone. You are invited.
“Each year, NAMIWalks gives us a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and think about our mental health and how we can support each other.” Dr. Luke Bergman, Director of County Behavioral Health Services. “This weekend marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder that it’s important to take care of your mental health every day.”
The day begins with a free community walk around Preble Field at NTC Park at Liberty Station. After opening remarks, the walk will begin at 8:15am.
The Mental Wellness Expo will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will feature more than 100 exhibitor booths offering resources and hands-on activities to help improve mental health for families, children, military personnel, and veterans.
Booths hosted by the county will include an affirmation potting station, a stigma-busting photo booth, naloxone distribution, face painting, a children's activity booth, a tai chi demonstration, and more.
