A stolen big rig led officers on a cross-county chase before it burst into flames near Rancho Cucamonga.
The big rig was stolen from a Bakersfield gas station. While the driver was filling the tank with fuel, someone jumped into the truck and drove away.
Officers apparently made the discovery on SR-14, which connects Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert.
The driver entered Los Angeles County via Interstate 5, then onto CA-134 eastbound to Interstate 210.
During the pursuit, the cab of the truck shook several times for some reason.
Although there was little traffic blocking the road, the suspect continued to lead officers from the San Fernando Valley to the San Gabriel Valley.
As the suspect approached Claremont, officers deployed a set of spike strips. The spikes punctured both front tires, one of which broke off the rim and flew into the air.
The suspect continued driving through Ontario and began weaving through lanes at a relatively slow speed. A short time later, the suspect increased his speed to 80 mph, causing sparks to appear from both sides of the cab.
The truck burst into flames shortly after the suspect fled.
He jumped over a wall adjacent to the highway and attempted to lose the police officer at an apartment complex. However, they quickly caught up with him and arrested him.
