Steward Health Care is currently a target of the Boston City Council.
The struggling health care system has already been given an ultimatum by Gov. Maura Healey.
Steward, who owns nine medical facilities in the state, including Kearny Hospital in Dorchester, is under pressure from elected officials to submit financial records by Friday or leave the state.
The company is reportedly $50 million behind in rent, and employees say financial troubles are evident in small things, such as shortages due to unpaid vendor payments. The company also said it cannot restart construction on Norwood Hospital, which flooded in 2020, because it has not paid contractors.
U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch on Wednesday visited the hospital and Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, where a fire broke out last year and is scheduled to reopen in late spring. He is now threatening company executives with subpoenas.
“We need full transparency from Steward Healthcare about its finances and plans,” Lynch said.
“I'm not a financial expert, but I make sure that requests from members of Congress and letters sent by delegations are forwarded to Dallas for consideration and hopefully a response,” Dr. Joseph said. .Mr. Weinstein, Physician CEO of Steward Healthcare
Weinstein also said he believes patient care is adequate.
Boston City Council is scheduled to discuss its response to Steward in a virtual meeting Thursday at 10 a.m.
