Stephen Colbert addressed and regretted Duchess Kate's recent announcement that she has been diagnosed with cancer and will undergo pre-emptive chemotherapy on the March 25 episode of The Late Show. I showed him what was going on. The late-night host addressed the backlash she received earlier this month for joking about Ms Middleton's whereabouts, weeks before the Princess of Wales announced her diagnosis to the world.
“We do a lot of shows. I joke a lot. I joke about a lot of different things, but mostly about what everyone is talking about,” Colbert said. . “For the last six weeks to two months, everyone has been talking about the mystery of Duchess Kate's disappearance from public life. Two weeks ago, we made some jokes about that mystery. When I told these jokes, even before her diagnosis was revealed, it upset some people. I know that many of my jokes have offended people in the past, and that my I understand that some jokes may offend people in the future, but I have a standard that I try to uphold myself: I don't disrespect other people's jokes .tragedy.”
“We don't know if her prognosis is tragic…whatever it is, too many of us know that any kind of cancer diagnosis is devastating for the patient and their family. I know,” Colbert continued. “While I'm sure they don't need it from me, I and all of the participants on 'The Late Show' wish her a speedy and complete recovery and send her our best wishes.” I would like to dedicate it to you.”
Colbert mentioned that on the March 13 episode of The Late Show, she joked that Middleton's disappearance from the public eye was related to her husband's alleged infidelity. It seems like it is.
“The whole kingdom is in an uproar over the disappearance of Duchess Kate,” Colbert said at the time. “Now, internet sleuths are speculating that Kate's absence may have something to do with her husband's affair with future King William… tabloids say Kate confronted him about it. He laughed it off and said, “It was nothing.'' When your wife accuses you of cheating, you always respond in a nice way.''
Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis in a video released on March 22nd. Since then, many celebrities have expressed regret for theorizing or joking about her whereabouts a few weeks ago. Blake Lively recently posted an apology on Instagram for Middleton's mocking of her “Photoshop fail” before her cancer diagnosis was announced.
“I don't think anyone cares today, but I feel like I have to acknowledge this,” Lively said in a message. “I took advantage of the 'Photoshop fails' craze and made a stupid post, but alas, that post made me feel so bad today. I'm sorry. As always, love and love to everyone. I send my blessings.”
Shortly before Middleton announced her diagnosis, celebrities including Jimmy Kimmel and Jamie Lee Curtis took to social media to blast conspiracy theories about her whereabouts.
“She's had surgery, abdominal surgery. Maybe she has a colostomy bag and doesn't want everyone to see it,” Kimmel said. “I mean, really. People are demanding she dress up and parade around London so we can see her too. Leave this bitch alone!”
“Can we please stop this stupid conspiracy theory?” Curtis wrote on Instagram. “This is a human being with a young child who obviously has some health issues. It's a personal matter. We have more important things to do than this, to think about, to worry about. Isn't there? That's a really low point in our society when there are so many serious issues that need our attention.”
In a video post, Middleton said her condition was initially thought not to be cancerous, but cancer was discovered throughout her body after abdominal surgery and she is currently in the “early stages” of preventive chemotherapy. She did not confirm the type of cancer.
