DENVER, CO – StarkWare, the developer of the layer 2 network Starknet, announced Thursday at ETHdenver that it is building a new cryptographic proof device called Stwo.
The prover is a critical component to Layer 2, as it generates proofs that are posted to the base layer blockchain, a critical process in linking the network and sharing security. According to the StarkWare team, faster provers should lower the cost of processing transactions, which in turn will effectively lower fees and speed up transactions for users.
Starware in August Open sourced an existing prover, also known as Stone. The new prover, Stwo, takes its name from a portmanteau of Stone and Two, and anyone can run it and inspect its codebase, according to a press release seen by CoinDesk.
According to StarkWare, Starknet app chains that currently use Stone will eventually benefit from Stwo provers.
This news comes just a week after StarkWare and Polygon. Announcing Circle Starkswhich is a new type of cryptographic proof designed to make zero-knowledge rollup transactions faster and cheaper.
Oren Katz, COO of StarkWare, said in a press release that Circle STARKS will be implemented on Stwo to help “strengthen Ethereum by generating proofs more efficiently.”
“It is especially exciting that just one week after the new Circle STARK protocol was announced as a theoretical breakthrough, this protocol is already on its way to practical application with the development of this incredibly fast prover,” said Katz. Stated.
