OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – From local watering holes to local sports talk radio booths, some conversations took precedence over others Tuesday.
“Big day in Kansas City. Big day in Jackson County,” Sports Radio 810's Stephen St. John said on this morning's show. border guard. “Many discussions over the past few months culminate in today’s vote.”
It's the talk of the Kansas City airwaves.
“Either way, it's an important day in Kansas City history,” host Nate Bukaty said. “Either way, this is going to have a huge impact on the future of our city.”
“This is going to be a long-term lease,” Todd Lebo said. “This happens about once every generation.”
Lebo, a longtime sports broadcaster and Jackson County resident, has led Sports Radio 810's stadium voting coverage. “The Royals have made it clear that they will not play at the Truman Sports Complex after 2031,” Ribo said. “I think they don't want to leave Kansas City, but maybe they don't want to leave Kansas City, Missouri, Jackson County. It's a game that you may or may not want to play. ”
This poll is unlike any other that Lebo has covered on the air over the decades.
“Before we voted in 2006, we didn't have social media. For example, you could join an AOL chat room and talk about different things, but now everyone has a voice about this. Now we can raise it,” Ribo said. “What we're trying to do is give people the facts and let them decide, because I think that's the most important thing. Being able to have the opportunity to vote on something like this is truly a privilege for America.”
“This is a historic day for Kansas City,” St. John said. “If you're capable and you're eligible in Jackson County, as I always tell people, just vote.”
