San Jose, California (March 22, 2024) – The City of San Jose sports business journal Ranked 2nd best city in California and 17th best city in the United States for sporting events in 2024. In the second annual poll, sports business journal has ranked the 25 best sports and business cities, focusing on the most successful cities in attracting and hosting sporting events between 2017 and 2023. These cities are the primary economic drivers for these communities.

According to a number of sources, hosting events such as USA Figure Skating and USA Gymnastics National Championships (two Olympic sporting events that have significantly increased guest lodging and TV exposure) has led to a decline in downtown San Jose over the past year. Visitor numbers increased by 96% in 2019. Using location services data from mobile devices, the study shows Las Vegas is the only major league city with a higher level of return to pre-COVID-19 business conditions (103%) .
The 4,200-seat Tech CU Arena is the culmination of a 20-month expansion of Sharks Ice, San Jose's public skating facility (currently the largest ice facility in the U.S.), to 200,000 square feet and the city's newest addition to SAP Center. A smaller venue can host events like last month's AHL All-Star Classic. Additionally, a Major League Cricket Stadium is being developed on a 14-acre parcel at the Santa Clara Fairgrounds.
