PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Jordan Spieth was disqualified from the Genesis Invitational on Friday after signing the wrong scorecard.
The mistake occurred on the par-3 fourth hole, where Spieth signed it for par but actually made bogey. He missed the green to the left and chipped it to 4 feet, but missed the putt.
Today I signed the wrong scorecard and ended up walking out of the scoring area after I thought I had taken all the steps to make sure it was correct. Rules are rules and I take full responsibility.I love this tournament and the golf course as much as any other tournament @PGATOUR That's why it hurts…

Spieth finished the first round with a 66 and played his final hole at Riviera on Friday, putting him inside the top 10. But he pushed his drive to the right on the 18th, got caught in a tree on the approach, and shot a 73, scoring double bogey. He then ran up the stairs and into the clubhouse.
About an hour after the tour announced his disqualification, Spieth explained that he had stepped outside the scoring area before being informed of his mistake. He played the first two rounds with tournament leaders Patrick Cantlay and Tom Kim.
Spieth's post-round DQ capped off a chaotic day at Genesis with tournament organizers Tiger Woods is absent due to illness.
Spieth was absent over the weekend, leaving 51 players on the bench. Cantlay leads by five points at 13-under 129.
