FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots have informed veteran wide receiver DeVante Parker that he will be released on Wednesday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Parker's agent, Jimmy Gould, told ESPN that Parker has been given permission to speak with other teams.
Meanwhile, the Patriots have agreed to a three-year contract with former Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson with a base value of $11.25 million and a maximum salary of $17.25 million, according to sources.
Gibson will be the top complement to No. 1 running back LaMondre Stephenson, who enters the final year of his contract in 2024. Gibson has played receiver-based, totaling 642 carries for 2,643 yards (4.11 average) and 22 touchdowns. He had 172 receptions, 1,283 yards, and seven touchdowns in his four-year career.
Parker, who will begin his 10th NFL season in 2024, signed a new three-year contract with the Patriots last July worth up to $33 million. He was a favorite of former head coach Bill Belichick because of his ability to make plays on the field.
Parker finished with 33 receptions for 394 yards and zero touchdown catches last season.
Drafted by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2015 draft, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Parker played the first seven years of his career in Miami. He was acquired by the Patriots in April 2022 in exchange for a third-round pick.
The Patriots are rebuilding their offense under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo and new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
