The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed wide receiver Gabe Davis to a three-year, $39 million contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.
Davis, who became a team captain for the first time in 2023, had some great performances in key games during his four seasons with the Buffalo Bills and was the team's best run blocker as a receiver, but he has struggled to consistently produce. There wasn't.
He caught 45 passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023, but announced that he would explore options in free agency after the season.
Statistically, Davis, who turns 25 on April 1st, had his best season in 2022 with 836 receiving yards on 48 receptions (on 93 targets), averaging 17.4 yards per catch. Ta. His biggest game statistically was in the 2021 postseason against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he caught eight passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns.
Davis was selected by the Bills in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and his 17.3 yards per catch was the most by a player in the regular season and playoffs since he was drafted. At times he had trouble keeping pace with quarterback Josh Allen, especially on throws downfield, and Davis averaged a team-low 55.6 catch percentage.
“Gabe is a good player in this league,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said in January. “You can call him No. 2 or whatever you want to call him, but he's a good player. He… has earned the right to see where his market is.”
