Mario Melchiotto also commented on Gary Neville's 'billion pound bottle job' rant at Chelsea, saying he understands where the pundits are coming from:
“I think the reason Gary said that is because of the investment, and we all know that, right?
“But you also need to understand [Jurgen] Klopp was there [at Liverpool] For a long time, he built up his red line to the end.
“For example, when I was playing in Ajax's youth system, I knew exactly what to do when I got into the first team. Not in a sense, but I knew what was expected of me because that's how the system is built.
“It's the same with Liverpool. All the young players know what to do when they make a breakthrough. Chelsea don't have that. Why don't they have that? Because every time the manager… If he keeps changing, he has to build his system the way he wants to incorporate plays into his youth system.
“Chelsea have great talent. When they're playing well you can see that talent, but when they're not doing well they need experience.
“And that's what they lack, and that's why he [Gary’s] I say this because sometimes even if you have talent, it won't take you where you want. In some cases, that character may be just what your team needs. ”
