Before we enjoy summer and the inevitable (and excruciating) social media countdown to football season begins, there's one last thing to do before erecting the tent pole for the NFL offseason.
Schedule announcement.
All the NFL can say is that it will be held this month. That's all the NFL has said so far.
Will it be this week? As far as we can tell, no, it's not.
How about next week? That seems more likely at this point. Next week in particular is a big one for the television industry, as the “Upfront” presentation will take place in New York. Given that the league currently authorizes each network to announce one or two games a few days in advance of the full release, schedules should be updated on the day each network announces its full fall lineup. It makes sense to generate maximum buzz by sharing a portion. .
If not next week, the next week will be the week before Memorial Day weekend. This is not the week that will draw the most attention to the upcoming schedule.
We still think the NFL could turn the schedule announcement into a full week event. Between Thursday night and Sunday night and Monday night and Thanksgiving and Christmas, the NFL could take four or more nights.
Monday and Sunday nights. Tuesday and Monday nights. Wednesday and Thursday nights. Thursday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in the late morning or late afternoon, and the rest of the schedule that night.
Regardless of the date, it's coming soon. “When'', “Who'', and “Where'' are you going? Great videos for each team (the two-time defending champions are the Chargers). The fruit of the upcoming football season.
