SGMC Health Foundation is proud to announce its latest investment in advanced medical technology, adding the Philips EPIQ CVx, a state-of-the-art cardiac ultrasound machine, to SGMC Health Smith Northview.
Since resuming emergency and acute care services at the Smith Northview campus in January 2023, the hospital has experienced record caseloads, creating the need for additional imaging.
Echocardiography, the cornerstone of cardiac imaging, plays a vital role in the evaluation and management of various heart diseases. An ultrasound is a common non-invasive diagnostic procedure often requested when a patient is experiencing chest pain or shortness of breath. The demand for this imaging is rapidly increasing due to an aging population with long-term health conditions.
The new machine represents a breakthrough in cardiac ultrasound technology, offering unparalleled advances in functionality and performance. Designed with precision and innovation, this product enables sonographers and clinicians to deliver superior care through higher throughput, superior imaging capabilities, and enhanced test efficiency.
Tom Gonzalez, SGMC Health's Echo Lab Supervisor, expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of this new equipment, saying, This technology provides exceptional image quality and enhanced data that can transform patient outcomes and shorten patient hospital stays. ”
“Investing in advanced medical technology is central to our mission to support the work of health systems,” said Hayden Hancock, SGMC Health Foundation Board Chair. “Funding important priorities like this his $150,000 machine allows SGMC Health to stay at the forefront of medical innovation and provide exceptional care to our patients.”
Expanding access to imaging further strengthens the health system's ability to provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients in the region. This is his one of his two new cardiac ultrasound machines used. The other is located in the Dasher Heart Center on SGMC Health's main campus.
