CHANDLER, Ariz. — After more than a century of business in Chandler, the Serrano family has announced it will close its restaurant near Chandler City Hall on June 1, 2024.
Due to increased competition for customers in the downtown area, Serrano's Mexican Restaurant was underperforming and the 13,000 square foot restaurant was becoming too expensive to operate.
“As Chandler's oldest family-owned store, we did not make this decision lightly. Our Chandler store is the only one we wholly own,” the Serrano family wrote in an Instagram post. I wrote it in

Members of the Serrano family have been in the East Valley since 1919, when Albert and Luis Serrano opened a dry goods store that served many farmers in the area, according to the East Valley Tribune. Existing.
The Serrano family moved into the restaurant business in the late 1970s. The success of his first Serrano's restaurant inspired the family to open more restaurants in other parts of the East Valley.
The family hosted a grand 40th anniversary celebration at the Chandler store in 2019.
