Thief River Falls, Minnesota – Sanford Thief River Falls Southeast Campus (1720 Highway 59 S.) will host a free skin screening event for new patients on Wednesday, April 24th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. With waiting list. Walk-ins are not accepted. To schedule a skin test, please call (218) 681-4747.
“Free skin cancer screening events are a great opportunity for individuals to take an active role in their health,” said Heather Waldall, CNP, Dermatology, Sanford Thief River Falls. “Skin cancer can have serious consequences, but early detection greatly increases the chances of successful treatment.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The two most common types of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, are highly curable but can be disfiguring and expensive to treat. Melanoma is the third most common skin cancer and is more dangerous and causes more deaths, but is more treatable if caught early.
“Statistically, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime,” said Patrick Jahn, NP, dermatology at Sanford Thief River Falls. “Diagnoses of non-melanoma skin cancer have increased by nearly 80% over the past 30 years, so it's very important to get tested.”
People with risk factors such as prolonged exposure to the sun or tanning beds, a family history of skin cancer, or the presence of unusual moles or spots are highly recommended to undergo skin screening.
