SANDUSKY, Ohio (WTVG) – Investigators are calling this case an identity theft case straight out of the movie “Catch Me If You Can.” The woman allegedly posed as a nurse or physical therapist without any medical training.
“We charged her with several felonies. It was just to get the ball rolling. We expect a very large indictment,” Perkins Twp Detective Joe Rotuno said. police.
Amanda Maynard Murphy, 33, of Sandusky, is charged with two felonies. Perkins Twp. Police say she allegedly used another Amanda Maynard's physical therapy number and another woman's social security number in North Carolina to pass her background check.
Maynard Murphy was later accused of working in the medical field at Parkview and Noms Healthcare in Perkins Twp. A suburb of Sandusky, Ohio.
“She will have access to patients' personal information. One of the things NOMS is doing is reaching out to all of their patients. They offer a one-year subscription to LifeLock. Detective Rotuno said.
That's not all. Police also said Maynard Murphy has held jobs at medical facilities in Ashland, Green Springs and Oak Harbor, with more jobs available. Maynard Murphy was not employed anywhere when police arrested her, but was wearing her medical gear at her home, she said in a statement.
“But the day we arrested her, she was wearing scrubs and putting a stethoscope on her, and it was about noon or 11 a.m.. Again, Catch Me If You… Can. I don't know if that's the case or not. Maybe she was faking it,” Detective Rotuno said.
In a statement, Parkvue Communities, operated by United Church Homes, wrote to 13 Action News:
