Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has apologized, saying negotiations with West Ham were a “mistake”.
Amorim said he had informed Sporting of the negotiations and there were no “secrets”.
However, he added that it would be “rude” to speak out against other clubs.
“The important thing to say is that it was clearly a mistake,” Amorim told Portuguese media at a press conference.
“This trip was a mistake. The timing was completely wrong. I didn't realize it at the time. I made the wrong decision.”
Amorim led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in his first full season in charge in 2022.
With four games remaining, the team is seven points clear of Benfica, meaning Sporting remains on track to win the title this season.
Coach Amorim said, “I gave an explanation to the players. I also gave an explanation to the staff.''
“But obviously apart from that now, it's important to keep moving forward, but I'm publicly asking for the Sportingista's forgiveness.” [Sporting fans]. I would like to apologize to the staff and also publicly apologize to the players for my mistake. ”
Moyes joined West Ham in December 2019 for his second stint in east London, ending the club's 43-year trophy wait by winning the Europa Conference League in 2023.
The Scottish manager is the seventh longest-serving manager across England's top four divisions.
