ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — On March 23, dogs and their owners enjoyed a photo op with the Easter Bunny while raising money for the Rockford Police Department's K9 unit.
Dog owners and their furry friends flocked to Bark in Mulford to pose for pictures at the pet store's second annual Easter Bunny photo shoot. Kay Busse-Clever, owner of Bourke on Mulford, said the idea started with a Christmas shoot with the Grinch.
“We had borrowed a Grinch costume from a friend, but we ended up buying one so we could use it every year,” Busse-Kleber said. “So this event brings people out. They love coming to support a good cause, taking pictures of dogs with bunnies, taking pictures on holidays and things like that.”
Boussecleber said he chooses a different nonprofit organization to raise money for each shoot. Saturday's shoot was especially meaningful.
“Today, we are providing assistance to the Rockford Police Department K-9 unit in memory of Nix, who just passed away. Therefore, all donations will go to them. It was important,” Busse-Kleber said. “Some people involved in our community said this was a big deal, so we decided to honor her with whatever our friends at the Rockford Police Department's canine unit are going to use. , we wanted to do our bit to contribute.”
Nearly 100 dogs will be photographed, and donations range from $5 to $20.
