The total revenue of the top five platforms, including Shopee, TikTok Shop, Lazada, Tiki and Sendo, reached more than VND71 trillion ($2.79 billion), an increase of 79% year-on-year.
According to a recent report from Metric, more than 766 million items were sold on these platforms in the first quarter, an 83% increase. Approximately 511,000 stores placed orders, an increase of 9%. The number of sellers on e-commerce platforms also increased by 9.22%.
Beauty, home and women's fashion are among the top industries in terms of revenue and sales volume for e-commerce platforms.
The beauty industry generated VND11.25 trillion in revenue, supported by promotional programs compared to offline stores.
In particular, consumer electronics, mobile phones, tablets, and men's fashion saw sales increase by more than 146% and sales volume by 370%.
Pham Bao Trung, sales director at Metric, said: “In addition to the economic recovery, businesses are increasingly confident in the development of the online retail market. If sellers want to reach a huge number of customers, electronic Commerce will be essential.”
The report noted that Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City led in terms of revenue and sales volume, accounting for 70%. But e-commerce is no longer the playground of big-city sellers, but is also expanding to rural areas.
Metric predicted that e-commerce sales will remain strong in the second quarter of this year, with more than 882 million products sold and revenue reaching approximately VND85 trillion.
