BATESVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) – A man from Northeast Arkansas started a food business in his backyard before starting a restaurant.
Jesse Doris, owner of Jesse James Foods, started cooking pork rinds in his backyard in January 2023.
“I had a turkey cooker. I would cook the pork rinds, package them, label them, and deliver them to grocery stores for wholesale,” Doris said.
Slowly, Doris built her business day by day and eventually achieved success.
“I went into 32 stores in total, but in December I was told I couldn't do it anymore,” Doris said.
It was when he got the news in December that he decided to start his own restaurant.
“We had to buy a kitchen instead of a backyard. In the end, we just wanted a kitchen, so we decided to do this,” Doris explained.
Doris currently owns the infamous vehicle on Harrison Street in Batesville, where she serves pork rinds and other menu items.
“The menu is old-school diner with a new flair for style. In addition to the usual cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, wraps, and salads, we also have things like the Ghost Pepper Iolio Burger and the Nashville Chicken Sandwich,” Doris said. .
His interest in cooking all goes back to his roots.
“I've been cooking since I was 16 and my grandmother and I were always cooking and she would cook with me. She taught me a lot about cooking,” Doris said. explained.
