Jason Fitts: The Super Bowl is in the rearview mirror. That means it's time to look at the big question facing my beloved Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, and it's a very simple question. What do you do at the quarterback position? I know some people are asking this, but the Raiders have something in common with every mid-draft team trying to figure it out.
You may want to be proactive. You might fall in love with one of the girlfriends of the top three picks in the NFL Draft and feel like you need to get Caleb. There has to be Drake. Jaden has to be there. But what if no matter what you package, the top three teams aren't willing to move? That's a real possibility.
You can be as aggressive as you want, but you can't force the other party to make a deal with you. So what do you do if you only love those three and can't get that deal done? Reaching for a quarterback in the first round is like setting yourself back several years. , so you can't reach the quarterback. Just ask the Bears and Justin Fields. Just ask the Patriots and Mac Jones.
You get someone in the first round, it doesn't work out for you, and it's often disastrous for the organization. So what do you do now? Will they bring in a veteran to boost Aidan O'Connell, and is that something Davante Adams is particularly excited about? The Raiders have money to spend. They have talent, but there is also a current tendency to waste that greatness.
Josh Jacobs had a historic year a few seasons ago. What was the result? Virtually nothing, 6 wins. last year. Davante Adams continued to excel with the Raiders, as did Maxx Crosby. What was the result? Nothing — no playoffs. The Raiders need to find an answer at the quarterback position. Otherwise, they'll just keep wasting the best players in the NFL at their respective positions.
