Purdue Global and Questar III BOCES have entered into a partnership to provide high school students with hands-on aviation education through a program designed to prepare them for flight training and a path to a career in the aviation industry.
Questar III is a Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) agency that provides instruction and support services to 22 public school districts in Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties, New York. Questar's aviation program includes classroom curriculum and flight training for 11th and her 12th grade students.
Purdue Global is Purdue University's online program for working adults looking for a flexible path to a variety of college degrees.
This aviation program is affiliated with accredited flight schools in the Albany, New York area where students can begin their flight training. While enrolled, you can work toward obtaining your private pilot certificate and instrument rating. This program reduces the cost of training and allows students to gain experience upon graduation.
The program is free to families and is one of the few programs available to high school students in New York State. Nearby Purdue Global Alliance Partner Hewson Aviation offers students the opportunity to continue their education after high school.
Through this partnership, Questar graduates who are admitted and earn a Purdue Global degree in professional flight or aviation management will receive eight college transfer credits toward earning their private pilot certificate. A student who earns an instrumental rating will receive an additional 15.5 of her transfer credits upon registration.
Students who continue their flight training while enrolled at Purdue Global have the opportunity to receive up to 45 additional transfer credits upon completing FAA certifications and assessments, including civilian, instrument, commercial, multi-engine, and CFI.
Questar III BOCES District Superintendent Gladys Cruz said. “This will provide aviation graduates with a new path to continue their education in the most mature and prestigious collegiate aviation program in the country and accelerate towards a career as a professional pilot.”
Purdue Global's Professional Flight Degree Program is a collaboration between Purdue Global and Purdue University's School of Air Transportation Technology in West Lafayette, Indiana. It combines the quality of the university's renowned aviation program with the flexibility and affordability of Purdue Global.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Questar III BOCES in recognition of our prior learning in both the Professional Flight and Aviation Management programs,” said Sarah Sander, Purdue Global Vice Chancellor, Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Interim Dean. said.
