SAN ANTONIO — The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) says raw pork chorizo products sold at HEB stores in Texas may be contaminated with foreign materials, particularly hard plastics and metals. A public health warning has been issued.
The issue was discovered after FSIS was notified of a consumer complaint that raw pork chorizo products contained hard plastic and metal pieces, according to the release.
The product subject to the public health warning is 'apco' brand Meat Lean/All Natural Premium Chorizo with a best before date of May 12, 2024.
Chorizo products were manufactured on February 12, 2024 and have the establishment number “EST.” 602 inches inside the USDA inspection mark. Please see the product label below.
Although there have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness from ingesting the product, FSIS has issued a warning to inform consumers that they should not ingest the product. No recall was requested as this product is no longer available for purchase.
If you are concerned about an injury or illness, please contact your health care provider.
Consumers who may still have this product are strongly advised not to consume it. Instead, we recommend that you discard the item or return it to the place of purchase.
