This week, MPR News host Brian Bakst spoke with DFL Representative Zach Stevenson and DFL Senator Erin Mae Quaid about the sports betting bill that has been a big topic on Capitol Hill. This bill would establish regulations for on-site and mobile gaming venues and their operators.
Minnesota is among a small number of states that do not allow sports betting as a licensed business. Mr Stevenson has been at the forefront of pushing for the changes, but May Quaid is also among those who have concerns about the bill.
Next, a conversation with Representatives Dean Phillips and Ilhan Omar about the bill passed by the House of Representatives this week to ban TikTok in the United States. Six of Minnesota's eight House members voted to ban the app unless ownership changes, but Phillips and Omar voted against it.
This app is used daily by millions of Americans. But TikTok has a Chinese parent company, raising concerns about the privacy of user data and possible foreign influence over the type of content that gets in front of people. Omar and Phillips, one of only 65 people to vote against the bill, explained why.
