Queen Creek, Arizona (AZFamily) — A Queen Creek police report into Preston Lord's death revealed the lengths the Renner family reportedly went to to conceal Taran Renner's involvement in Preston Lord's death.
A 16-year-old boy was assaulted after a Halloween party in October and died several days later. His death sparked a massive manhunt in the East Valley that ultimately led to the arrest of seven people on suspicion of murder. Arizona's family is reviewing more than 1,000 pages of police reports.
It was learned that people close to the Renner family told police that the move was an attempt to cover up Taran's injuries and Taran himself.
According to reports, Taran's father, Travis Renner, had a long-term girlfriend who was close to the family. Although the two broke up before the Preston Road attack, she still had access to Travis' credit card history.
She told police after the fatal assault that Taran was taken to the family cabin in Show Low, about three hours away from where she lives.
She went on to say that Taran had been messaging her on Snapchat while she was in the cabin. Taran sent her a photo of herself walking with her dog Gucci. She told police she could see in her photo that his jaw was swollen.
The ex-girlfriend also told police that his attorney had advised the Renners to have Taran's hand healed before taking him back to town.
The woman described Taran as an “angry child” and a “warrior.” She said he was “very aggressive and when he gets angry, he gets angry.”
She described Taran as muscular and “full of anger.” She told the police that she cared for Taran as he had been part of her family for a long time and was sorry to be misunderstood, but the turning point for her was hearing about the video surveillance, where Taran is a “closed coffin” discussing the incident and escaping surveillance.
Taran Renner, along with six other suspects, has pleaded not guilty.
The suspect's parents have not been charged in connection with Preston Lord's murder.
