Scientifically accurate simulations have enabled Peugeot Sport to strengthen design decisions and support the industry's transition from heat engines to hybrid and electric vehicles.
Paris, April 26, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: FR0014003TT8, DSY.PA) and Peugeot Sport, the motorsport division of Stellantis, today announced that they are preparing the Peugeot 9X8 Hybrid for the 2024 endurance race. announced a partnership to simulate and optimize hypercar aerodynamics. Demonstrate high-performance electric mobility in motorsport and create value for the Stellantis automotive brand.
Dassault Systèmes' SIMULIA PowerFLOW application, powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, was used to create a virtual twin of the entire car exterior to accurately predict the aerodynamic effects of different designs on performance, downforce generation, and stability . By seamlessly connecting design and simulation data in the cloud, Peugeot Sport was able to evaluate and optimize design ideas. Therefore, the final design decisions were made more efficiently and cost-effectively.
“Dassault Systèmes and its technology and expertise are at the heart of our design and simulation. This partnership has enabled our team of 120 to collaborate, innovate quickly and achieve our goals. ” said Olivier Jeanthony, Stellantis Motorsport WEC Project Director. “From day one, he was able to easily access and understand the airflow simulation results and make the initial decisions that directed the rest of the design. He was able to accomplish 80-90% of his development with simulation alone. I did.”
Peugeot Sport's Peugeot 9X8 hybrid hypercar will compete in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, which consists of nine races around the world, including the high-profile 24 Hours of Le Mans. The hybrid hypercar category requires competitors to adhere to strict design regulations and test their vehicles in the same wind tunnel, highlighting the key role aerodynamics plays in increasing competitiveness.
Peugeot Sport was already using Dassault Systèmes' CATIA application for mechanical design, but before testing real vehicles in tunnels, Peugeot Sport could quickly start and run aerodynamic studies and test them in one virtual approach. I was thinking of doing this. Using solutions from Dassault Systèmes, he ran more than 10,000 simulations to evaluate, for example, how air flows under the powertrain, around his splitter at the front, and along the rear without a wing. Did.
“Motorsport is demanding on drivers and their vehicles, and requires speed and precision from teams,” said Lawrence Montanari, vice president of transportation and mobility industries at Dassault Systèmes. “Dassault Systèmes created an environment in the cloud for engineers from both companies to collaborate. Both companies were able to simulate the aerodynamics of the Peugeot 9X8 hybrid hypercar at every stage. The team analyzed the simulation results and proposed improvements to meet the requirements. Peugeot Sport successfully developed a highly durable and competitive hypercar in response to the WEC requirements.”
