LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Owners of a local mattress and furniture delivery company tell 8 News Now they are losing sleep after someone allegedly stole their critical cargo trailer early Friday morning.
Jose Algumanis of Big Dotzer Furniture, located in a business and warehouse complex off Valley View Boulevard and Twain Street, said the cargo trailer was stolen from outside the warehouse shortly after 3 a.m. on April 12. Told. The marks remained on the ground for nearly a week. later. Algumanis told 8 News Now what happened that fateful morning, along with surveillance footage showing details of the crime.
“It was planned because he wouldn't have stopped anywhere else,” Argumanis said. “He unlocked the hitch and backed up.”
The thieves' escape was temporarily stopped by a chain Algumanis had fastened to the trailer. The suspect dragged the trailer as hard as he could, making the chain squeak throughout the ordeal. He then cut his locks and stole his trailer. Algumanis claims it was a white Dodge pickup truck.
The trailer was empty at the time, but Argumanis said the cost was about $3,000.
All mattresses are ready to ship. Typically, Algumanis said he can deliver six orders with his trailer and pickup truck. Without the trailer, he said, he could only place two orders.
“We're struggling because business isn't very busy. My wife is sick so I'm the only one who can go to work right now. So the whole situation has been really difficult, including the trailer thing.” he said.
Since it opened in 2019, I've been parking outside because I thought it was safe. He said the new trailer will now be stored off-site.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department crime statistics show auto thefts are down and stolen property crimes are the same as last year. But a similar situation happened a few doors down at home remodeling company EZ Bath and Shower.
Their trailer was abandoned for several hours in August 2023.
“I paid $8,000 for that trailer, and at the end of the day, that defeats the purpose of why we got it: to run and run our business.” said Stephonn Taylor of EZ Bath and Shower.
Thanks to the tracker, they found the stolen trailer and it is now parked indoors.
Algumanis told 8 News Now he has filed a police report and hopes the trailer is returned and the thieves are arrested.
But for now, he and his wife are at a loss, waiting to find out if the trailer will be found and how insurance will cover it.
