Ogeechee College of Technology's 2023-2024 Dinah Culbreth Wayne, Exceptional Adult Georgians in Literacy Education (EAGLE) President James Henderson, was honored this week with a trip to the State Institute for Leadership in Atlanta. While preparing, I received an award from the OTC faculty.
The 2024 Dinah Culbreath Wayne Eagle Leadership Institute will recognize students who have excelled in adult education classes and programs at a three-day event in Atlanta from March 25-27. and provide sessions to develop leadership skills for its students.
Henderson, a Brooklett native, graduated from the adult education program in 2023. His desire to learn and enthusiasm allowed him to earn his qualification in less than 6 months.
“No matter what your circumstances may be, adult education options offer students the opportunity to succeed,” Henderson said. “It opened up a lot of doors that I never thought would be available to me.”
Ms. Henderson is currently enrolled at East Georgia State University, where she plans to further her college education, earn a bachelor's degree, and eventually become an English instructor. He hopes to someday use what he has learned to teach English abroad.
“Not only is James a dedicated student, he also spends a lot of time volunteering and giving back to the community,” said Nakya Canty, OTC Career Transition Specialist. “He is a great example of how adult education can help advance your career and we hope to encourage others to pursue their qualifications as well.”
