Oracle and Microsoft are partnering with OpenAI to extend the Microsoft Azure AI platform to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
The partnership is expected to meet the growing need for more powerful computational resources in AI through OCI's powerful infrastructure.
Oracle and Microsoft power Azure AI with OCI
Oracle is partnering with Microsoft and OpenAI to prepare to expand the Microsoft Azure AI platform by linking it to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, which is expected to create greater room for growth in AI innovation and enable OpenAI to scale its operations to meet the needs of its expanding customer base.
OpenAI, which launched the language AI model ChatGPT, has over 100 million monthly users, a number that is growing as AI is integrated into a range of software and business solutions.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was also excited about the partnership, saying, “OCI extends the Azure platform and enables OpenAI's continued expansion.” Oracle Chairman and CTO Larry Ellison added:
“The race to build the world's largest large-scale language models is on, creating endless demand for Oracle's Gen2 AI infrastructure.”
Global AI innovators leverage OCI's capabilities
OCI is known for having one of the best AI infrastructures and is now bringing the power of the Azure AI platform to the table, including OCI Supercluster, which scales up to 64k NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs or GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips with ultra-low latency RDMA cluster networking.
This architecture enables multiple AI tasks, including generative AI and computer vision.
In addition to supporting OpenAI, OCI also supports AI innovators across industries around the world. Companies such as Adept, Modal, MosaicML, NVIDIA, Reka, Suno, Together AI, Twelve Labs, and xAI are leveraging OCI Supercluster for training and inference of next-generation AI models. This capability reflects Oracle's commitment to providing high-performance, cost-effective solutions for AI applications.
Expanding AI collaboration and integration
At the same time, Microsoft also announced a partnership with G42, a UAE-based AI and cloud computing company, after Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in G42 to boost AI development in the UAE and make the country a hub for artificial intelligence.
Omar Al Olama, the UAE's Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, said this is in line with the UAE's AI vision to position the country as a global AI hub.
Additionally, Apple has revealed that it will be incorporating OpenAI's ChatGPT into its iPhone operating system, a major improvement to Siri's capabilities. The integration is included in the new iOS 18 update and is expected to come with enhanced artificial intelligence aspects to improve the use of the operating system.
