BENGALURU: Online shopping is growing rapidly, with more than one in three online shoppers surveyed now cutting back on discretionary and essential spending, according to a report by public policy think tank Empower India. The company uses e-commerce as its main channel.
A survey of 69,000 e-commerce users revealed a strong preference for online shopping, with 63% of men and 37% of women expressing a preference for digital transactions. Approximately 36% of e-commerce users use e-commerce sites as their primary method of shopping.
E-commerce platforms are increasingly preferred because of the convenience of home delivery (82%), ease of finding desired products (67%), and easy returns and refunds (61%). That's the reason.
When it comes to buying essentials like groceries, 41% trust Amazon the most, followed by Big Basket (28%). According to the report, when consumers shop online, they want the assurance of timely and safe delivery that is free from damage or theft, along with real-time shipment tracking updates. Amazon tops the list as the most trusted platform for discretionary items, with 72% of shoppers trusting Amazon.
Empower India Executive Director K Giri said, “It is clear that a large section of the population prefers to shop online and Indian e-commerce companies have a lot of work to do to gain significant traction.” .
