GRAND FORKS — An Oklahoma State University professor will become the next dean of the UND College of Education and Human Development, according to a university press release.
Shelby Witt, a professor of youth literacy and English education at Oklahoma State University, will assume the position of department chair starting July 1.
She will succeed Dean Cheryl Hunter, who has held the position since Cindy Juntunen resigned last year.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Witte will be joining UND as the next dean of the College of Education and Human Development,” said a statement from Eric Link, UND provost and vice president for academic affairs. “She has extensive administrative experience and has demonstrated that she is a collaborative and innovative leader who collaborates across the university and with external stakeholders to best serve students and the state of North Dakota.
Mr. Witte currently serves as the Kim and Chuck Watson Endowed Chair in Education and Senior Director of Teacher Education for the Oklahoma State College of Education and Human Sciences. She previously served as site director for the Oklahoma State University Writing Project.
Ms. Witte began her career as an English teacher in southwestern Oklahoma and entered academia in 2008 as an assistant professor at Florida State University.
“I am thrilled to join the College of Education and Human Development at the University of North Dakota and look forward to working with our talented faculty, staff, students, and the larger United Nations community to realize our flagship institution’s mission and focus on growth. I look forward to working on it,” read a statement attributed to Witte.
