Lee Bonner, a high school history teacher in the Novi Community School District, has received the Michigan Lottery's Excellence in Teaching Award, according to an announcement from the Michigan Lottery.
The Michigan Lottery established the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014 to recognize outstanding public school educators in the state each week during the school year.
Mr. Bonner has been a history teacher in the Novi area for 23 years.
“My goal has always been to have a positive impact on the students I work with. I am fortunate to have had some teachers who have had a positive impact on my life, and I am grateful to them as well.” I hope to do the same,” Bonner said.
Bonner holds a bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University and a master's degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The weekly Excellence in Education Award winner receives a $2,000 cash prize. At the end of the school year, one of her weekly award winners will receive the Lottery's Educator of the Year Award and a cash prize of $10,000.
Each winner will be featured in news segments on Michigan Lottery's media partner stations, including WXYZ-TV in Detroit. The segment featuring Bonner will air tonight, Tuesday, March 19th.
