NYC Health + Hospitals receives $550,000 from The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
This grant will support the career development of psychiatric physician assistants and the care of asylum seekers who are survivors of torture.

NYC Health + Hospitals announced today that it has received $550,000 in funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. The $300,000 grant will fund the launch of the Psychiatric Physician Assistant Career Pathway Program at NYC Health + Hospitals. The program includes courses at local universities, guest lectures by behavioral health experts, clinical placements, fellowships, tuition reimbursement, and more. The program is designed to attract and retain clinicians to care for New Yorkers with mental health and substance use needs as the United States faces a national shortage of mental health professionals. The program is expected to launch later this year. The $250,000 grant will fund treatment at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst for asylum seekers who are survivors of torture. This funding will enable Elmhurst Hospital's Libertas Center for Human Rights to continue its focus on providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive mental health care. Integrated medical, legal and social case management. Coordinating care for survivors of torture and responding to the recent surge in asylum seekers in New York City, allowing us to serve more people.
