The North Mercer R-3 School Board accepted the resignation on April 8th. They are from paraprofessional Isabelle Holt and are effective at the end of this academic year. Jody Owens will serve as assistant varsity women's basketball coach. Mark Meinecke will serve as assistant varsity men's basketball coach. And Sherry Barker has been hired as assistant varsity softball coach.
Teaching contracts for next year have been offered to Laura Mason, library/special education teacher, and Lindsay Landis, grade 7-12 English teacher.
The Board of Directors resolved to extend at-will contracts to all current non-certified employees into next year.
Two members of the senior class submitted plans for a senior trip to Daytona, Florida from May 5th to May 9th, and the board approved the trip.
The Missouri High School Activities Association's Dead Week period from August 3rd to August 11th was approved.
The board approved the purchase of new English language arts textbooks for grades 3 through 6. The textbooks purchased from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt match the series purchased for kindergarten through second grade in previous years. A seven-year subscription costs $26,021.91 for a hybrid package that includes digital and physical books.
One bid was received to replace a boiler operating on the east side of the school building. The bid by Maven Mechanical Services was $39,012.50. The board deferred this decision to obtain more bids.
The results of the Board of Education election have been certified. Makella Hagan will take the oath of office, and Irvin Tuff will administer the oath upon his return.
The board elected Terry Noe as president, Heath West as vice president, and Kyler Stevenson as secretary-treasurer.
Superintendent Wade Hall provided an update on the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) and highlighted discussion of the importance of staff and student climate and culture. This information will be utilized in the summer CSIP revision.
We discussed two summer projects. The work involves relocating the sink in the science room, installing a cap on the gas pipe, and growing grass on the softball infield to make the infield smaller.
Information regarding the length of service of staff members was presented. Heather Michaelis for 5 years, Richard Jones for 10 years, Nellie Henry for 15 years and Jodi Owens for 25 years.
The May board meeting will be held on May 13th at 7pm in the library. The start time of the meeting coincides with his sixth grade promotion ceremony, which will be held the same evening.
