minneapolis — The following weather warnings have been issued for Wednesday evening as several inches of snow could fall and roads could become slippery. The warning covers the southern half of the state and western Wisconsin.
High temperatures in the Twin Cities are expected to be in the 40s, with some sunshine expected early in the day. Things change when a fast-moving storm arrives in the afternoon.

A winter weather warning is in effect for much of southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday. However, the warning will begin earlier than noon for the West, from Hutchinson to Mankato.
The chance of snow increases significantly later in the afternoon.
“We're expecting some rain, probably by the evening commute, but it could transition from a little rain to snow,” meteorologist Joseph Dames said. “That means things can get a little bit slippery. When the roads get a little slippery, visibility can get a little bit worse and it can make driving a little bit more difficult.”
Expect 2 to 4 inches in the metro, with some areas in the South potentially seeing 4 inches.
Snow chances increase in south central Minnesota. There will be a narrow band of snow, with lower totals near the metro and higher totals one or two counties south. This snowstorm will have heavier bands embedded in it.
This storm is moving slightly to the north, which could bring some rain to parts south of I-90. That being said, northern cities like Bemidji and Grand Rapids are unlikely to see any snow.
Temperatures should remain in the 30s and everything should clear up by Thursday. However, slippery areas are expected to continue, and depending on the situation, WCCO may issue his NEXT Drive Alert.
Friday will be even colder with highs in the low 20s. Light snow is possible in southern Minnesota.
It will gradually warm up over the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach the 40s early next week.
