The 2024 NFL Draft has been finalized and the results have been announced, and the New York Jets are ranked in the middle of the pack.
Sports Illustrated analyzed each team's draft picks and ranked all 16 AFC teams from “least exciting to least exciting.” The Jets finished eighth overall.
With a total of seven selections in the three-day draft, New York earned a better SI ranking than AFC East rivals the Miami Dolphins (11th) and Buffalo Bills (15th). The Pittsburgh Steelers ranked first among AFC teams in the “Most Inspiring Draft.''
Meanwhile, Jets leaders insist they are happy with how the draft went. New York was able to pick up one spot in the first round, securing their franchise left tackle prospect in Penn State's Olu Fashanu.
“There were a lot of players that our scouts were excited to get, but the board didn't go our way. So there were a lot of players that we liked, so we traded back and got what we wanted. We were able to acquire a player who was available,'' Jets general manager Joe Douglas said.
Additionally, in addition to adding insurance at offensive tackle, the Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers and a weapon in the passing game, trading up to No. 65 overall and acquiring Western Kentucky receiver Malachi Coley. New York also addressed its need at running back with two mid-round selections.
“We've added a lot of quality players to this team, our type of players, players that we're all excited to have,” Douglas said.
From SI 2024 AFC Draft Class Rankings:
“The Jets got off to a strong start by acquiring OT Olu Fashanu to solidify their left side for years to come. However, they missed out on a second-round pick in the Aaron Rodgers trade. , New York acquired two running backs, the Jets also acquired WR Malachi Coley, a 215-pounder who can create yards after the catch, and it was a good offensive class.'' – Matthew Verderame.
