PORTLAND, Ore. — The North Carolina State Wolfpack and Texas Longhorns played Sunday's Region 4 final on a court with 3-point lines of varying distances at the top of the key.
“The NCAA was notified today that the 3-point lines on the court at Moda Center in Portland are not the same distance,” the association said in a statement following the Wolfpack's 76-66 victory.
The on-court error used in four girls district semifinal games on Friday and Saturday was discovered before Sunday's game. After consulting with officials, Longhorns coach Vic Schaefer and Wolfpack coach Wes Moore agreed to continue the game rather than delay it for a remeasurement.
“Both head coaches recognized the discrepancy and chose to play the complete game on the court as it was, rather than modifying the court and delaying the game,” the statement said. “The court will be fixed by tomorrow's game in Portland.”
Neither team had a clear advantage as the teams switched sides of the court at halftime.
On Monday, the Moda Center will host the Region 3 final between No. 1 seed USC and No. 3 seed UConn.
Division I Women's Basketball Committee Chairwoman Lisa Peterson said in an interview with ESPN late Sunday that it was unclear whether the lines would be repainted or fixed with tape. She added that Peterson would need to have the court professionally measured to determine the exact error in distance.
