The NBA on Monday broke ties with six of its 15 teams to determine the order of picks for the 2024 NBA Draft, which will be held June 26 and 27.
The Charlotte Hornets won the tiebreaker against the Portland Trail Blazers after both teams finished 21-61, tentatively taking the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the NBA Draft, respectively. Depending on the outcome of the NBA draft lottery on May 12th, Charlotte could finish seventh or lower, and Portland could pick as high as eighth.
Charlotte has a 13.3% chance of hitting the draft lottery, while Portland currently has a 13.2% chance.
The Sacramento Kings win the tiebreaker against the Golden State Warriors and will receive the 13th pick if they do not move up in the draft lottery. The Warriors will receive the 14th pick, the last selection in the lottery, and unless the Warriors finish in the top four, that pick will go to the Portland Trail Blazers, which has only a 3.4% chance of happening.
Other tiebreaker results include:
*The Philadelphia 76ers will pick with the 16th pick, and the Los Angeles Lakers will pick with the 17th pick. The Lakers' selection may be passed on to the New Orleans Pelicans at the Pelicans' discretion, but the Pelicans must make a decision by June 1st. Should New Orleans elect to postpone? If they acquire the pick, they will receive the Lakers' 2025 first-round pick in exchange.
*The Orlando Magic have the 18th pick, and the Indiana Pacers have the 19th pick. Indiana's pick will be conveyed to the Toronto Raptors as part of the Pascal Siakam trade.
*The Milwaukee Bucks have the 21st pick, and the Phoenix Suns have the 22nd pick. The New Orleans Pelicans will have the 23rd pick.
*The Dallas Mavericks won the tiebreaker against the New York Knicks after both teams finished 50-32, giving the Mavericks the No. 24 pick. Dallas' pick was given to the Knicks as part of the 2019 Kristaps Porzingis trade.
*The Denver Nuggets will receive the 28th pick after winning the tiebreaker against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Thunder will receive the 29th pick. The Oklahoma City Thunder will be traded to the Utah Jazz as part of a series of trades.
